I am considering moving the U.S. to Australia. What is it like to live there? I currently live in a small Pennsylvania town about 90 miles north of Pittsburgh. I'll have my BA in Communications from the University of Pittsburgh in June and I am seriously considering moving to Australia. I am single and have no children so now is the best time to move if that is what I decide to do. I'm obsessed with the beach, I like warm weather and sunny, and like being surrounded by people of all races / ethnicities / backgrounds. I am a culture, educated, a lovely woman and motivated young people. I make friends easily and yearn for more adventure and excitement in my life. I did lots of research and I heard both extremes of good and evil and everything else. I have some questions and I would greatly appreciate a little more insight please!
I'll have my degree, I repeat, and have about 4 years of work experience. What can I expect? Again, I am single and have no income support (until I met a wonderful man Aussie, of course;) so I need to make sure I would be able to live comfortably ! (I consider a roommate, I guess)
I'm young and enjoy the nightlife and culture. Which city is the best stage for the other twenty? IE, theaters, museums, comedy clubs, bars, restaurants, etc.
What are the crime rate like? The people of Australia more optimistic and imaginative than the general population of the United States? Everyone is so cynical and jaded here!
One of, if not the biggest concern I have is that I heard about all the dangerous creatures that are on the continent. I keep hearing horror stories of giant spiders aggressive, thousands of species of venomous snakes, sharks, etc. Is it really as bad as the wildlife people make it sound? I am not naive and I understand each country has its stereotypes, but it is the premise of this ghost story based on the truth enough? My biggest fear is spiders, eek!
What is the cost of living, as it? I heard Sydney is very expensive, so I'm leaning more towards Melbourne.
Speaking of cities, which would be the best city for me to live? I plan to be there for 2 or 3 years (maybe more if I fall in love with her!). I occupied the towns (which means there is much to do) with a laid-back feel (the bustle of a city, type I stress might NYC too). I love the diversity and despise the uneducated, red-neck "attitude.
Now I know a great stereotype with Europe is that they are not like Americans (b / c of the American stereotype?), But how Australians think the Americans? No blood is sick right? I do not want to feel like the odd woman all the time! P
Also, I know it changes a lot, but what is the current conversion rate?
That's all I can think of for now. But if you can think of any other relevant information please let me know. I traveled to the United States and the Caribbean before and I guess I just want to make sure that if I made the move I enjoy it and be financially and socially sound behind me. It is exciting about the thought, but I want to make sure I'm not naive, too high hopes on the whole.
I guess I just need to know what changes in lifestyle I need to do all the main differences and adjustments, you know?
Thank you for your contribution!

Looks like you have thought long and hard. You should go ahead and see how you like it! You never know otherwise. I am from Scotland and now live in Tasmania, but lived in northern NSW before. Probably the biggest difference for you things cultural. Although Australia is a multicultural society, it's heritage is British so there are plenty of things for me are sim.
