Funny Picture EditorTips for creating Silly Pictures animals for the consumer market

Cats, dogs, mice, elephants and other animals

For those of you not familiar with my "Animal Antics" series of stupid pet photos, it is one of my sub-specialties. I create these images of cats, dogs, mice, elephants, cows and other animals by combining digital photography with the composition and handling. I use Photoshop to combine several photos and create anthropomorphic scenes and situations of our animal friends.

Part of the idea is to bring a little humor and fun into the world by treating others with the unexpected pleasures of pet pictures LOL (I receive e-mails a week from people appreciate. .. something I have never taken place with my other work), and part of the series is to expand my photography market to effectively include the public ... all those millions of people in search of funny pictures, funny pictures pet pictures funny cat and so on, and buy the calendars, greeting cards, coffee mugs, mouse pads and ... Well, you get the idea!

Limiting the rights you have granted

The images are also available for licensing for advertising, editorial, corporate and promotional uses. For those of you move into this arena, it is good to keep in mind that when a company wants a permit from the picture, make sure and limit them to only those rights they need, and where they are competent.

I had enough experience now to understand that a company that does an excellent job in moving greeting cards could be terrible for the distribution of calendars or posters. Do your homework and makes sure that you are not handicap yourself by giving rights to publishers or under-performing distributors.

Advances Get!

I also think it is very important to obtain advances. In thirty years of professional photography, I have only been about three times Stiffed ... and most recently was a civil society that convinced me to provide images without the advance.

They sold calendars and, through a series of financial maneuvers, it has become virtually impossible for me to get a penny. And it was a company I trust! If a company does not have enough faith in their company to pay an advance, so you'd better get on the front.

A collection and create models

If you succeed in this arena, you'll need a collection. Have at least a dozen, two dozen preferably completed pictures to show to potential publishers. If they are greeting cards, to be mocked-up complete with captions.

If you have an idea book, he laughs too. Once I found a book idea to a publisher by showing them a couple of dozens of greeting cards and explain the scenario. They explained that I had not a book, a whole bunch of greeting cards. When I was a designer put these images in book form, the publisher gave me a contract and has published three books.

Razor scooters and Cats

Pictured above three cats zoom by a passage on razor scooters, I first found a place that included a path winding along the green hills of grass in spring. Then I arranged for a tamer bring more "professional" studio cats in my photography. I worked from a layout that is a drawing of what the final image should look like.

I might add here that the image was originally created for a greeting card company and their artistic director has developed the layout. Using the layout, I made sure I photographed each piece of each cat in the position and the light that I needed to put together the final picture.

When we do our shoots for these images, we also ensure you fill all the accessories and / or clothing wardrobe that we might need. In this case, which was ONL.
