As one of the largest cities and most diverse of Great Britain, Glasgow has always had much to offer the potential visitor to Scotland in terms of arts and culture. However, the city often tends to be overlooked when it comes to its festival offerings, be set aside for the Edinburgh wide range of comedy and drama that takes place every August. But while the annual supply of the Scottish capital are certainly among the best on display at the British arts scene, it is important not to forget that Glasgow also hosts a variety of arts festivals throughout the year.

February, for example, sees the annual Glasgow Film Festival. Taking place in a variety of locations around the city, this annual film festival is one of the most anticipated in Europe and pays tribute to a range of new films from across the continent and the world. As a range of talent in Scotland, the 2007 Glasgow Film Festival selection includes over 90 films to be screened for ten-day festival, including Hollywood-hyped offerings such as Robert De Niro's' The Good Shepherd and the well known Chinese director Zhang Yimou's new film "The Curse of the Golden Glower.

The month of February also sees the 'Aye Write! Book Festival "to descend on Glasgow. As one of Scotland Book Festival Premier "Aye Write! celebrates the rich literary pickings from Glasgow and beyond, celebrating the best literary talent in Scotland. In 2007, the festival will be held at the Mitchell Library on North Street, a beautiful baroque building which is well known as the largest reference library in Europe. This year, more than 150 authors participating in the festival: the personalities expected to include Iain Banks, Alasdair Gray, Andrew Motion, Will Hutton and David Blunkett.

If you plan to visit Glasgow in March, you'll be treated at Glasgow International Comedy Festival, which runs from 8th to 24th March. The event, which operates in 40 sites and hosts some of the best comedians in the world, is the largest comedy festival in the United Kingdom, 2007 the hottest tickets include Russell Brand, Jimmy Carr, Paul Merton and Frankie Boyle. As more than 270 performances, theater workshops and events industry will be organized - so if you miss stand-up shows, there are many interactive events where you can participate.

If you plan to visit Glasgow for such events this winter, make sure you book your hotel in Glasgow in advance of your arrival in order to get a place to stay. Many travel sites offer discounts on a variety of hotels in locations throughout the city, so you're looking for a 4-star hotel close to the Mitchell, or simply looking for a quick bed and breakfast in downtown, you'll always be able to find what you are looking for.
