Then there were two

The cartoons have been around for a long, long time. Several decades have we read the adventures of heroes in tights, monsters, witches, cowboys and brave in the anthropomorphic beings from a miniature magazine. And these decades, we have seen many companies come and go comic, but only a few have managed to survive and thrive.

There are literally hundreds of companies do not have comics that litter the cemetery printing. Some had a good amount of success, others have no impact at all, and some have even questioned the big dogs for a short period of time. But when all the dust has settled, there were always two companies at the top of the heap will always be at the top of the heap, and they're Marvel Comics and DC Comics.

These two behemoths co-organize the world title for the top comics editor that both have struggled for supremacy since their inception. They boast the most famous and popular in the world of cartoon characters, and most of the market share. DC and Marvel Comics are top of the comic industry, and they dare anyone to challenge them.

Some companies have been close contenders, and some still are. Comics Valiant Comics Crossgen held out for a while and fought their way up near the top. But finally, the two fell to the power of "Big Two". Dark Horse Comics Image Comics and always have their dogs in the fight, and they form the "Big Four" to some extent, but they are still far from the monsters that Marvel and DC and continue to be. Even through bankruptcies and failures, these two companies held their ground and supported their positions.

There are many small business content with their small market share that know better than to attack directly the large. Companies like Ape Entertainment, Avatar Press, Antarctic Press, Archaia Studios Press and other choice few have carved their own niche in the market that DC and Marvel Comics are not necessarily complete, and it has worked well for them.

Other companies, such as Malibu and Wildstorm, have sold their businesses to DC and Marvel Comics, respectively, instead of competing directly with them. In Malibu, which was the death knell, but for Wildstorm was a wise decision, and now that the universe is incorporated into the DCU proper.

No matter what happens in the comics, it's a safe bet to assume that Marvel and DC do not always prevail over the rest of the community publishing comics.
